Wake up! With Type in the Morning

Here is a great book that I would like to recommend to students and professionals alike. This book has a simple format of just showing words and the action that they suggest. It is a lovely book that can help us see how to use type in fun and interesting ways. This book is written by Ivan Chermayeff and Tom Geismar.

The first time I heard of this book was this past November. I was really interested in finding the book, but at the time I was really busy with school finals and everything an art student goes by. I finally picked it up at the beginning of school and was surprised at the size of this book.

Initially, I thought that this book was going to be a medium sized book and it turned out to be really small, yet informative. Originally, this book was placed in a magazine called Typographica, a British magazine back in 1962. The experiments that were done in this book were only inserts at the time. The Design community at the time were intrigued by the use of letters and images. Presently, you can see the influence in some form or fashion in many designs.

As an art student, it really doesn't matter what you are studying, this book will provoke some new ideas to flow into your brain and on to your designs. I hope that some of you will pick this book up. It's a pleasant smell of design air.
